Breen M8

Construction information

Construction of a materials recovery facility will begin at the site on the Glasgow and Edinburgh Road off the A8 in Q3 2026. This website provides information about the project, what to expect during construction, and how you can stay informed or get in touch with our team.

About the project

A 16,500 sq.m materials recovery facility is being constructed. 180,000 tonnes of materials will be separated, washed and processed to produce recycled paper, cardboard, metals and plastic. The plastics will be processed into new food-grade quality plastic for future use. This significantly reduces the need to continuously produce new plastic for the food and beverage sectors.

Materials which cannot be recycled will used to generate electricity which will be used to power the facility with any surplus exported to the national grid. This ensures the facility is operating as a net zero site (and does not create additional carbon.)

Construction and updates

Construction is expected to begin in Q3 2026.

We are committed to providing regular updates during construction.

We will:

  • Provide regular updates on site activity and programme
  • Manage site activity, including traffic and operations
  • Maintain clear and accessible contact points

A dedicated Community Liaison Team will be in place throughout construction.

Their role is to...

  • Provide up-to-date information about the project
  • Respond to questions and enquiries
  • Ensure issues are logged and addressed
  • Act as a consistent point of contact

The team is available via phone, email and this website.

We will also hold community information events to introduce our team and provide more information about the facility; its construction and operation and the opportunities associated with it.

About Breen

BREEN CAPITAL (“BREEN”) was founded in Ireland by our Chairman, Bobby Breen, and operates globally. BREEN is a principal investor, and operator in projects at scale which generate both long term financial outperformance and deep rooted environmental, social and humanitarian outcomes.

Our extensive global network of business, academic, research, and governmental leaders allows us to be sector agnostic. However, many of our projects are in energy, materials recovery and circular economy focused businesses.

Our approach to designing and running projects comes from decades of hard-earned experience on complex work around the world. What we’ve learnt is simple: listen, understand, and challenge a partner’s thinking where it needs challenging, respectfully but honestly. This kind of engagement builds trust for the long term and when alignment comes the foundations for partnership are solid.

BREEN will bring this approach to working in partnership with all project stakeholders to deliver a world class net zero materials recovery facility in line with the Scottish Governments business, climate and environmental policies.
